Today, Eliot Spitzer, governor of New York, was found to be linked to a prostitution ring ... he was Client 9, and had arranged to meet a prostitute. This story was covered on every major network and most political blogs have already taken up an opinion. In my opinion, while this is hypocritical in the extreme (given that Mr. Spitzer has busted prostitution rings in the past) it is really not that relevant to the job he is doing as governor. Nor did it cause anyones death or create any serious problems in the world (I do feel for Mr. Spitzers family and I am not belittling the betrayal they must be feeling).
Also recently, a state Representative in Oklahoma, Sally Kern, chair of the State Social Services committee, got up in front of a group of supporters and gave a speech spewing virulent, anti-homosexual rhetoric (which was also delusional in the extreme ... and pretty humorous in its ludicrosity) ... I have found it in a few blogs, and the Victory Fund has put out this video, "I'm listening", to raise awareness, but the fact that a state official is propagating horrific misinformation and essentially promoting hate crimes has not even made the news cycle.
What is wrong with us?
