Byzantium

You know, the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire or the Byzantine Empire, bridge between East and West, collapsed in 1453 when sacked by the Turks and became Constantinople, as noted in my favorite They Might Be Giants song. Anyway, having visited and loved Istanbul and studied European history in college I have often been interested in the history of this city and the Byzantine Empire in general.

Recently, I found a fantastic set of podcasts detailing the history of the Byzantine Empire. If you like Roman or European history, or are simply a general history buff, or even if you just like a good story, I highly recommend 12 Byzantine Rulers, by Lars Brownworth. You can find the podcasts at the linked site, or on the iTunes store.
