Taaa-daah!!!! Kitchen

So the kitchen is finished, and it is fabulous. When we cook in it, we feel like master chefs, its kind of amazing. It is, as it should be, the absolute focus of our home - we talk while we cook, sitting at the counter while we watch the other chop, saute and generate fantastic food.

I could go on and on, talking about the incredible fridge and how much space it has or how easy it makes it to put things away. The stove, with its power and precision burners, and how easy it makes it to make up the pan-fried noodles that we love (it is especially enjoyable to saute in a pan that is level ... compared with our last stove). The counters, and how we can both work on preparing separate dishes and still have room for people to sit at the bar, how we sit at the bar every morning for breakfast. Or the new bar cabinet, and the gorgeous way that it displays my scotch collection .. or the hanging copper pots shining beautifully by the side door.


We love it, it is so fabulous. I am so excited to get home each day just to see and work in the kitchen. But enough with the superlatives, you can judge for yourself by the pictures.

Almost there

So the kitchen is making really good progress and should be 98% done by the end of the week. Two days ago the pendant lamps, fan (which operates by remote and has a dimmer ... yeah, I am excited about our fan, home ownership does these things to you) and microwave. Yesterday we got the countertops, activated the microwave and installed the sink and the stove. Aviva also assembled my scotch cabinet, which is basically superfantasticawesome.

Today, we took another series of steps in getting the sink active, installing the undercounter freezer, moving the old fridge into place (the new fridge was not in stock at Sears despite the fact that they told us it would be, so we are not getting it until July 8th), adding cabinet handles and drawer pulls and installing the backsplash. No pictures today but the next set, coming up soon, will be the final ones ...

Coming Along

So the kitchen is making progress, a little bit here and a little bit there .. actually, there have been a few days where far more than a little bit happened; one day we came home and the bar was built, the next, the cabinets were up. But that was last week, this week has been a bit slower, as we have been waiting for the silestone counter tops, which apparently take 7 - 10 days to finish after templating.

And since nothing else can really be put in until the counter tops are set, we are waiting, mostly. The kitchen has been painted, a lovely, strong shade of peacock blue, and we received almost all our appliances today (you can see them waiting patiently to be installed ... although not the fridge because Sears are liars about their inventory) and apparently the stove will go in tomorrow, and sometime before the end of the week the electrical will be finished, which means the fan and pendant lamps will be going up. The contractors (Kitchens and Additions) have been fantastic, except for starting late, they have been prompt, hard-working and very nice thus far, Brendan in particular has been fantastic. So sometime next week we will be all done ... but for now, great progress.

New Kitchen

So we are having our kitchen redone, and despite the late start, the contractors are making fantastic progress ... on Monday the contractors tore out the whole kitchen, Tuesday they built the bar and today they gave us a new floor!!!!
